Quarter-Mile To Glory, Spring 2014 Edition Return To The Woods Sunset Strip Concessions Are Closed For The Season
A Quarter Mile To Glory Faded History Faded History II Can I Run Now, Dad? Huh? Can I?

Faded History II

From the late 60's through the early 80's, the sound of announcer Jan Gabriel's voice proclaimed that "Smokin' US 30 Dragstrip" was open on "Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!" and that it was "Where the great ones RUUUNNNNNN!" US 30 is located in what was once Gary, Indiana, now part of Merrillville/Hobart. Closed in 1984, it remains abandoned and unsold, despite the efforts of several real estate agents. The two 1/4-mile dragstrips are overgrown with weeds, as is the return road and the parking lot. The concession stand is buried in trees. The "30" here is a closeup detail of the main logo painted at the starting line. Olympus E-M5, d. Zuiko 12-50mm
