James (not John) Robert Goldthorpe died in 1929, and it was his daughter Florence Mabel (Mab) Goldthorpe who took over the business and owned it until her death in 1978 (not 1970). She was my great aunt. To this day the shop retains the same approach, with stocks of anything you could imagine, although the extensive range of gas lamp mantles and parts which I recall from the late 1960s seems to have diminished, and the old smithy in the yard has finally gone.
