Remains of 1893

The central rotunda dome for Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. The core building, built of brick covered with a plaster mixture called "staff", was the Palace of Fine Arts for the World's Columbian Exhibition of 1893. Built in the Beaux Arts style, it borrows liberally from ancient Greek and Roman. It was completely renovated in the late 1920's with a limestone replica of the original staff and wood surface, and opened as the science and industrial museum in 1933.
