After the regular show was over, Michael and Heather came out into the audience, stood up on chairs, and had one more special treat. Michael, honoring his Irish heritage, sang "The Parting Glass" totally without the PA. It was a very touching moment. Fortunately, they were right next to us. The stage manager had come out with them, and held up a little LED flashlight. But since they didn't turn on the houselights, that was pretty much it. The combination of the E-M5 and the Panasonic 20/1.7 somehow managed to pull a usable image out of what was really just darkness. This image is processed in Silver Efex Pro, and I think the high-contrast treatment gets close to the feeling of the original scene. Paul is the bandleader and bassist with the Elwood Splinters Blues Band, one of the most popular blues bands in the region. I've mixed them at our club for several years now, and they're one of my favorite bands to work with. Dean McLaughlin and his father, Bob. Bob ran the large Dr. Who convention, Visions, for 9 years over Thanksgiving weekend before finally retiring in 1998. Visions was the successor to "Spirit Of Light" conventions, and the predecessor to the "Chicago TARDIS" conventions that carry on today. A lot of the CT staff is carried over from Visions. Dean was a normal child until he was struck by a car. The injuries he sustained crippled him both physically and mentally. I've known Dean since the first "Visions" convention in 1990. He was visiting our convention this weekend with his dad.
