Cypress "flowers"

"Cypress flowers". Male and female cones of the NW USA conifer Chamaecyparis lawsoniana, aka Lawson's cypress, 'lawsoniana', Port Orford Cedar. A few months ago Chuck mentioned something about not knowing about conifers and cones. It's Spring here, and all sorts of plants are doing it. Here the little red arrow points to the male (pollen) cones and the blue to the female cones, eagerly awaiting the arrival of fresh pollen. The larger arrow points to one of last year's female cones which grew and by now has shed its seed. Some seeds are still visible in the left cone.
