Sweet chestnuts.

A friend a few blocks away has a marvellous large sweet chestnut tree (Castanea sativa) This year the crop was huge, and some of the nuts fell on the footpath ... Here they are :-) I really like the lovely brown colour of the nuts. The un-opened fruit however, is something to be treated with great caution. Those spines are ferocious to handle with bare hands - like a hedgehog which is in a thoroughly alarmed state.
