Echoes of the Past

This old sign for the Palace Restaurant is painted on the side of a building that has gone through a lot of different owners. The North end of it at one time was actually the ticket office for the South end of an interurban railroad that ran through Valpo and up towards Lake Michigan. The previous owners, a jewelry store, covered it all up with structural styrofoam in the late 90's. They moved to a new location late last year, and a man bought the old building with the intent to restore it to its vintage charm. I missed photographing the sign when it had been exposed for a short time in the 90's, and then they glued styrofoam over everything. I made sure I got one this time, although it's not as clean since it's got adhesive on it and in places the foam removal peeled paint off.
