John Johns, ARPS, photographing a flowering orchid
John Johns, official photographer for many years for the now-defunct New Zealand Forest Service, was a meticulous and very skilled photographer. Here he is in his spare time with and Pen half-frame and Kodachrome 25 taking a photograph to illustrate a complete guide to NZ Orchids. He much preferred diffuse light, note that the flash is from the side, with light reflected from a white surface to illuminate the opposite side. Note also the use of a Kodak Grey card as background. The photos were on half-frame slides. My photos taken with E-3 and manual Panagor 55mm f/2.8 macro, probably at f/11. Tripod, outdoors; mostly bright cloud.
