Scottsdale Spire
Frank Lloyd Wright had been commissioned to design a new Arizona State Capitol building, but the plans were deemed too radical for the time (a common reaction throughout most of Wright's career) and they were never built. The city of Scottsdale decided to get permission to build the 125-foot spire from the plans (originally the spire capped the capitol building) and make it the centerpiece of an art park at the entrance of a new shopping center.
The blue panels are glass and light up at night. It's truly beautiful in person, and reminds you of the native Saguaro cacti that grow throughout the region.
