Mexican Petunia
Trying a new plant in the pond this year - a Mexican Petunia or, more specifically, Ruellia brittoniana. It's a marginal, which means it doesn't sit completely submerged like a lily, but on a shelf on the edge. In the wild, it likes moist or marshy soil. Certain varieties are very aggressive and invasive, but this one is being sold legally by a local garden center, so this is one of the varieties engineered to be tamer.
It is supposed to have these pink flowers all through the summer, which will add a nice splash of color to our little wildlife sanctuary.
