Hand-woven cotton carpet / mat

We found this colourful mat at a charity store. The colours are quite vivid, although since the photo was taken in strong full sunlight they don't seem quite true. Suggestions as to its origin are welcome - I have my own guess that it come from a country where Incas once lived.
