"It's Sunday Night, and This Is Night Rock!"
This was a tripod-mounted timer shot from our last night on the air. For 8 years, I was part of the team that put the Night Rock show on a regional radio station every Sunday night.
We played three hours of rock'n'roll, usually the "deep cuts" or lesser-known songs from an artist. We also took requests, had special guests both in the studio and over the phone. It was more or less like underground radio from the 70's and 80's, before everything became corporatized and homogenized. We all drove in and did the three hours for free, because we loved the music and loved what we did.
Then, suddenly, station management cancelled the show, saying it cost too much or some such nonsense. They wouldn't let us sell our own advertising, yet refused to try and sell ads on their own. We ended up getting replaced with some generic overnight satellite programming, still without any local advertising.
