Most of the original Canal looks like this today - weed-choked, overgrown with trees... or dry. There are a few spots where the Canal has been restored to it's original look, but for the most part, unless you know that what you're looking at is the remnant of an old superhighway, you'd just think it's another drainage ditch or swamp.
