In Our Garden
The ground in our courtyard is extremely sandy - if you look at maps of our area during the various stages of the Ice Age, we're actually on the shore of Glacial Lake Michigan. In fact, at one point, our yard would have been beach. Currently, we're about 15 miles South of the current shoreline.
Needless to say, you have to be careful with the kinds of flowers you plant. This is an Arizona Blanket Flower, or Gaillardia grandiflora. Right now, there's one bloom. But there are a bunch more maturing, and as the plant grows and spreads, it will cover both large planters with gorgeous yellow/orange/red flowers.
